29 More Days of Summer

I just came her create a new blog...I thought I had been posted this one back on August 28, only to find that it was a Draft . So much going on I forgot it. Sorry it's a bit late.
[Created August 28]
Now that things are almost back to normal ... no hurricane on the horizon for now ... Sanford stable and Pam doing fine, we took a chance and finally booked our cruise [including insurance]. It's a 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise, Sept 14 -21, which includes our 60th Wedding Anniversary [Sept 19]. Hmmmm... That's more than 3/4 of my lifetime...best time of my life.
What with our Pam in treatment, Grands/G-grands in school, the high cost of air fares and astronomical gasoline prices, we chose to go away and celebrate so that no one would feel bad about not being able to celebrate this very special occassion with us.

We are praying that nothing changes that we have to change our plans.

I love cruises. I think a cruise is the ideal vacation. While I worked for TWA, I flew all over the world and saw just about everything I wanted to see. Now I just love cruising...especially with all the craziness at the airports theses days ... We pack one time and visit different places and never have to plan what/or where to eat or how to get there. With so many options: going/not going ashore, entertainment choices, meeting/spending time with new people, lounging around the pool with a cool drink, etc. and last but not least... being served and pampered, 24 7.

Playing Another Hand

It's that time of year when here in South Florida we have to be prepared for the possibility of a tropical storm or hurricane. Preparations include putting storm protections in place, having enough medicines, water and food, etc. for at least 5 days. At this monent we are on a Tropical Storm Watch as TS Fay approaches Key West, where they are on Hurricane Watch. Tomorrow the first day of school, the schools are closed as well as the next day, because the schools are used as shelters for those whose homes may be unsafe in the event that it does become a hurricane.
Prior to hurricane Wilma back in 2006 we felt reasonably safe, but after a little rain damage we realized the need for storm shutters. We procrastinated, but fortunately we had them installed...just 2 weeks ago. After Wilma, we were without electricity for 8 long days, but we were blessed, some were without for weeks.

Last Wednesday Sanford had his 4th of 6 scheduled cancer treatments. Since his transfusions he feels stronger, Thank God..

On Thursday Pam had her 1st of 3 chemo treatments [scheduled every 3rd week for a 12 week period]. Unlike the frequently heard stories about side affects of chemo treatment, she was blessed, she didn't have any. Her being back in her class room, teaching, less than a month after her surgery makes her Phenomenal in my book. She's a a trooper, God bless her.

On Friday Sanford visited to his new Oncologist. And was advised that it is a possibility that he will need radiation treatments. Won't know for sure until after he has a PET scan.

This past Thursday a cousin from Los Angeles, whom I haven't seen in more than 10 years visited us. Everyone enjoyed her short visit with us. After she left I was a little sad, because she lives so far away and as I thought about it ... realized that I don't know when or if I will see her again. As we age our family means so much more to us than when we were younger. I have 7 First cousins that I know of [my uncle was married twice and I don't know the children from his first marriage]. Of the 7 cousins that I do know, my brother is the oldest male and and I am the oldest female. I know that age is just a number and the higher it is, the more blessed you are. It is a strange feeling to think/realize that I'm older than all of the other female blood relatives........
I've considered a genealogy search and hope to begin one ...one of these days.

Things Are Getting Better , TG

This week has been the best in quite a while, thanks to our good Lord. Sanford's feeling good again since getting his transfusions.
And Pam has had an incredible week back at school. Her little 'army of angels' have really been there for her like you wouldn't believe. She met the mother of a former student in the supermarket and after they talked for a while, the mother promised to bring her boys to school to help Pam get settled in her new classroom. Well, that mother showed up with her four boys and at least 6 other boys. The boys went into the classroom and got busy working like they'd done it all before...with almost no instructions they were putting things where they belong and hanging stuff up, etc..
Pam's best friend's friend has a daughter who will be in Pam's class and when that mother came to see Pam, she said that she too, is a breast cancer survivor and a nurse. She shared lots of info and promised to be there when Pam goes for her treatments.
These are just two of many expressions of love showed our DD. We feel more blessed than words can express. Pam told us that she doesn't know what she did to deserve all the love and care she's receiving, but she's glad she did whatever it was.
It seems the whole school is also offering their support. Like a teacher tells a kid that they're going to call their parent, one of Pam's teacher friends told her that if she didn't sit down and stop working, she was going to call Dorienne [Pam's daughter]. LOL.
Her first week back in school was better than she could have ever imagined. God IS Good ... All the time!!

TGIF

Looking back.. this week reminds me of a winding road with potholes and bumps.
It started Monday with our follow-up appointment with our Primary Physician. [DH] Sanford was very weak due to anemia. Dr.B. ordered lab work to be done [STAT ] Tuesday morning. About 2 pm Tuesday afternoon, she called us with instructions to go to the hospital Wednesday morning for blood type and cross match...for the 2 transfusions she had scheduled for Thursday. DH's RBC had dropped a lot since his last visit.

On Tuesday, Pam, our DD in Atlanta, who recently had a mastectomy called to let us know that her oncologist had decided that she will need chemo treatment which is called TCH. The port is being implanted today and her treatments begin next week.

On Wednesday when DH went to the urologist for his second cancer treatment, he was advised that the former urologist had not faxed his medical records re the previous bladder cancer, claimed they never got the request. :( Maybe ... Maybe Not ???????

Finally got some good news Wednesday from Noelle, our youngest (17 year old) granddaughter. This will be her senior year and for several reasons she wants to work. She was the FIRST 'interviewee', on her FIRST job interview... and she got her FIRST job. She will be working for Circuit City...selling cameras. She is so excited and of course we're really proud of her as well as happy for her. She is so looking forward to working Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, when people start lining up outside of the stores the night before.

We had planned to go to Atlanta to visit Pam after DH's transfusions, but the flights we wanted were not available. So we decided to postpone the trip, which our children thought was a good idea. Said we should wait until DH is feeling strong again. I am so glad we decided not to go because, though DH feels somewhat better, he doesn't feel as strong today as he thought he would. But we're looking forward to better days.

No plans for the weekend except to go to Mass.

Y'all have a Happy........
